Candlelight Concert July 22

OQUOSSOC – Rangeley Friends of the Arts will present A Candlelight Concert at the Log Church in Oquossoc on Tuesday evening, July 22 at 7:30 pm. This special performance of classical guitar, flute and voice by Sue Downes-Borko and Victor Borko will delight all in attendance.

Sue Downes-Borko received her music education degree (flute) from the University of Massachusetts. She has been teaching piano and flute lessons for over 20 years in addition to eight years as a teacher in the public school system in Alaska. After being employed by The College of New Jersey’s School of Music as a staff accompanist for seven years, she and her husband settled in the western mountains of Maine. In Rangeley, Sue is the Minister of Music at the Congregational Church, serves on the executive board of the Rangeley Friends of the Arts, accompanies the school choirs, directs a handbell choir, performs as a vocal/flute/piano soloist, is a member of the Hot Airs Flute Quartet, participates in community theater, and has played for many weddings throughout the area.

Victor Borko is a graduate of Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts, where he studied classical/jazz guitar and music education. As a professional guitarist, he has performed in musical productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Man of La Mancha, Grease, Cabaret, Godspell, and others. He played with the professional touring production of the broadway musical Evita. He has played for many celebrities including Bobby Rydell, Don Rickles, and Bob Hope. Since the age of 12, he has performed in numerous musical groups/bands in a wide variety of musical styles. Victor also enjoys arranging/composing music.

Victor Borko was born and raised in the Philadelphia area, after college he moved to Alaska where he was a music educator for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and also met his wife, Sue. After serving several in the Alaska school system, they returned back east and, enjoying nature and the outdoors, eventually found their way to Rangeley, Maine. They now reside in the Rangeley Region and run “Gull Pond Music Studio”, providing professional music for wedding ceremonies and churches on classical guitar/flute/voice/piano/organ, plus accompaniment and student instruction. Victor plays at St. Lukes and Our Lady of the Lakes churches and enjoys performing sacred music and hymns on the classical guitar.

This will be a special musical treat that no one will want to miss. Victor and Sue have great talents that they so willingly share with the entire community. Admission is $10 and tickets will be available at the door.
