FARMINGTON – This summer, justice wears a green-hooded sweatshirt as Farmington Children’s Summer Theater Camp presents the original production, Robin Hoode: An Urban Adventure. Featuring some of western Maine’s most talented young actors, the show runs for two exclusive performances only, Friday and Saturday, July 31st and August 1st, at 7:00 p.m. in Farmington’s Mt. Blue High School Auditorium.

Based on the legendary story and paying homage to its various incarnations, Robin Hoode moves the action from the forests of medieval England to the subway system of downtown Boston. The story sends our unsuspecting hero, Katie Greene, into a world populated by clever runaways, video game tournaments, and an ambitious ringleader looking to get even with a corrupt city hall run by the self-serving Deputy Mayor Prince. Along the way, questions of right and wrong, good and evil, fact and truth challenge our heroine and her new friends to consider the real costs of justice.

Farmington Children’s Summer Theater Camp boasts a tradition of highly talented young actors coming together to perform an entire full-length production in only two weeks, a tradition this year’s thirty-plus-member cast should have no difficulty maintaining. Sarah Wade plays Katie, while Erin Buckland portrays Robin Hoode, a charismatic runaway leading a bunch of outcasts played by Sarah McDonald, Casey Rogers, Noah LePage, Winnie Chan, Ivy Enouch, Amy, Meghan Charles, Shelby Cumings and Dylan Roberts. Cat Goding plays Deputy Mayor Joanna Prince, a woman bent on removing her rightfully elected sister from power. Detectives Greene and Connolly, played by Sarita Crandall and Noah Zanella respectively, perform their duties as law enforcers despite the shenanigans of Thad Gunther and Sully Jackson’s Officers Hammer and Putz.

The production hopes to be a unique experience for theatergoers as cell phones will be encouraged, websites will be visited, and video gaming will be championed. If all goes according to plan, Robin Hoode will be an interactive experience for adventure lovers of all ages.

Directed by Dan Ryder with assistance from Emily Pottle, Zoe Hardy, Harris Roberts, and Jakob Wyder, and technical crew North Kay, Garrett Goodridge, and Matt West, the camp runs for two weeks across late July and early August. During that time, campers ages 7-15 learn elements of theater ranging from movement and characterization to stage design and improvisation. This year, participants aided in the completion of Dan Ryder’s original script. All proceeds from the camp and performance go toward supporting the Mt. Blue Music Boosters and their continued efforts in the MSAD #9 community.

Robin Hoode: An Urban Adventure runs July 31st and August 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the Mt. Blue High School Auditorium. Tickets are $6 for adults and seniors, $4 for students and children, and are only available at door. FMI contact Director Dan Ryder at 578-0357 or email at dryder@msad9.org.
