WILTON – The Foothills Arts Center’s November after-school art series offers drawing, watercolors, pop-up book characters, and collage for children in grades 1 through 3. The classes will meet on Wednesdays, Nov. 5, 12, and 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Children can choose to participate in all or any of the three classes: The Art of Story-Telling, Under the Sea, and Dinosaur Drawing. The teacher is Kim Jacques, who teaches art in SAD 9 and is a multi-media artist herself.

In The Art of Story-Telling, children will transform their favorite story into a visual fold-out. They will plan out a collage to tell a story and add a twist to the story by recasting its characters with a favorite pet.

The Under the Sea class will be an exploration of sea creatures. Students will discover how these creatures live, what they eat, and how they survive. Then the young artists will create their own sea world through drawing and watercolor. They will also create their own coral reef using the fun technique of ink-blowing.

Dinosaur Drawing is another creative learning experience. In this class children will learn how to draw these fantastic beasts and their environment, while learning about how the dinosaurs lived.

The Foothills Arts Center, the region’s community arts center, is located in the historic Bass-Wilson Building in downtown Wilton. The bright, cheery Center on the water is a gathering place for creative learning and friendship-building.
