FARMINGTON – SugarWood Gallery kicks off the holiday season with an art showing by local artist Mary Beth Morrison. An Open House reception to welcome the artist and her work will be held Friday, Dec. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mary Beth Morrison

Painting in watercolors since 1991, Morrison now includes pastels, oil and acrylics in her painting interests. She loves to paint the Maine land and sea and sky, still lifes and buildings. She has been painting abstract work as ballast to representational stuff the last several years. Figures appear in these works, which generally tell a personal story. This summer plein aire work was Morrison’s goal, and working in pastel. A flip creativity is pottery work, in which she is still finding her feet, but continues in it as an other creative dimension. She worked with printmaking, wire wrapping, encaustic, and fabric dying this year, too.

Morrison has shown her work locally throughout Maine, and is included in private collections here and in far flung places as a result of selling work in art shows, juried events and donating to worthy causes. She enjoys taking art making trips with painter friends in summer and fall, and regularly engages granddaughter Stella in art making days. She serves on Upcountry Artists board and believes in art collaboration. She occasionally offers workshops in creativity, and watercolor lessons.

Morrison’s work will remain on exhibit and for sale through February. SugarWood Gallery is located at 248 Broadway, Farmington. Store hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
