FARMINGTON – Nothing better to do on a Thursday night than watch “COPS” reruns? Well the Mt. Blue High School Curtain Raisers Improv Comedy Group has just what you need. The Curtain Raisers will be having their first event of the school year, “The Candy Corn Conspiracy,” October 28th at 7:30 p.m. in the Mt. Blue High School auditorium.

The Curtain Raisers are a talented bunch of students that love making people laugh by bringing all kinds of different aspects of comedy together. They play games such as the growing and shrinking “Anna Nicole Smith,” the sprawling “Big John,” and the charades-on-steroids laden “Excuses.” Improvisational games involve a structure, but everything after that is just from of the minds of the performers and the suggestions from the audience.

The 2010-2011 group has a great returning cast of Alex Allen, Laurel Fraley, Jessica Baxter, Josh Hiltz, John Evans, Morgan Spencer, and Kat Goding. The Curtain Raisers also have a large number of students joining the cast. Sophomores include Carolyn Poliquin, Calan Lucas, and Abby Lochala. Freshman members include Noah LePage, Astra Pierson, Eli Cohen, and Alex Pane. Senior Curtain Raisers Tech Kas Seaward makes the whole thing work from behind the scenes.

The Curtain Raisers put on monthly shows and won’t disappoint you. The group’s director is Dan Ryder. Ryder has been the director of the Curtain Raisers since he had hair and has high expectations for this group.

“This year marks the largest influx of new talent since the group’s beginnings,” says Ryder. “This means great things for our audience and for the troupe. The veteran members are already shaping the new crew’s energy into something that can best be described as “absurdly awesome.'”

If you need a good laugh the Mt. Blue High School Auditorium at 7:30pm Thursday October 28 is the place to be. Price is three dollars for all. Questions? Contact Artistic Director Dan Ryder at (207) 778-3561 or dryder@mbrsd.org.
