KINGFIELD – The Stadler Gallery is pleased to present two exhibitions of recent works by Patricia Ritzo of Kingfield, Maine, and Elizabeth Yamin of New York, New York, on view from August 8 through August 28.

Patricia Ritzo’s Red Sail #4

“Bright, Bold Maine Summer” is the title of Ritzo’s show, and it is just that: energy compressed during long winter months comes to a magnificent explosion of color and light during the short duration of summer. Nature brings out its most exquisite clothes and starts a jubilant celebration.

Ritzo, a life time painter, has been known mostly for her pastels which so accurately reflected the landscape surrounding her, from the outburst of colors in a bed of hollyhocks to the subtle shadings of a hayfield in the evening sun.

Turning more and more to acrylic painting she is presenting with this show a body of work that does not only radiate the boldness of the Maine summer, but the boldness that the Maine summer instilled in her.

Elizabeth Yamin’s Retrace

Yamin’s show consists of small paintings in oil and acrylic, as well as works on paper. Her work is strongly influenced by two very different studio locations, the Brooklyn Navy Yard where she works most of the year and the area near Mt. Blue in Weld, where she spends her summers.

Worlds apart, they are both beautiful and exciting. It is, therefore, not surprising to find in her paintings the solid blackness of barges, the angles of cranes and the tenuous rusting of metal on the one hand, and the cooler palette of the colors predominant in the Maine landscape on the other.

Poised between confusion and resolution, the paintings maintain the tension between physical and visual experience.

There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, August 8, from 2-5 pm.

The Stadler Gallery is open daily from noon to 4 pm and by appointment. Please view www.stadlergallery.com for more information.
