Donna Allen, owner of Trends…Alternative Healing.

Donna Allen, owner of Trends…Alternative Healing, wants to help you on your journey toward achieving such balance. Allen’s new business, at 2745 Main Street just before Loon Lake Road, may just be the keystone to perfect health here in Rangeley. Step inside and experience this beautifully restored space – that, alone, is enough to start you on your way to relaxation!

At Trends…Alternative Healing, Allen provides certified and licensed therapy in Reflexology and Massage to balance your energies, relax your body, and provide a peaceful respite from the daily bustle in which to nurture your spirit. Allen likes to say she’s a “stress reduction practitioner.” Her goal is to create ease within the body, so that one is not in a state of “dis-ease.”

It is common knowledge these days that stress is a leading cause of many illnesses. When stress takes its toll, it’s easier for dis-ease to take over.

Reflexology treatments concentrate on the feet and hands since they are considered to be the mirror of our inner physiology. These treatments, which require only taking off your socks and shoes, can provide relief from an amazing variety of ailments that are too numerous to mention here. A few of the most popular ones for which people find relief are sinusitis, arthritis, headaches, disrupted sleep patterns, and low energy. A reflexology treatment includes a luxurious aromatic foot-soak that helps your body to rid itself of toxins released through the treatment.

These days massage therapy is no longer just for athletes. Everyone can benefit from this wonderfully rejuvenating session. The benefits are real and measurable and can help speed healing for many conditions. Most of us know that massage is a stress reliever. However, it goes well beyond just stress relief and includes; improving your circulation, which delivers fresh oxygen and nutrients to your body’s cells (your brain included!), and stimulating your lymphatic system, which carries away the damaging toxins from those cells so they can heal quickly and operate at peak performance. Massage therapy also prevents and relieves muscle cramps and spasms and can help with pain management in conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, and muscle spasms.

For both therapies there is the option of adding hot stones. Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones, often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. The heat is deeply relaxing and helps to release those tight muscles. The stones are sanitized and then heated in 120 to 150 degree water. During the massage, the therapist warms up the body with traditional massage techniques then massages you while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another. The therapist might also leave heated stones at specific points along your spine, in the palms of your hand, on your belly, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body and increase circulation. Be sure to remind yourself of these incredible health benefits if you start to feel one bit guilty about getting a massage!

In addition to these healing therapies, Trends…Alternative Healing offers products that compliment Allen’s services such as body/hair/skin care products by Archipelago and Khepra, unique specialty jewelry, Timeless Traditions© tear bottles (keepsakes), and essential oils.
