FARMINGTON – Photographs at two local businesses, Winter Hill Antiques and the old Dryden mill both received awards at state photographic competition. Farmington-based photographer Alana Ranney Parker of Alana’s Fine Art Photography took the images.

She was awarded five ribbons at the Maine Professional Photographers Association (MPPA) annual print competition held in Lewiston on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011. This was her first year entering at the professional level.

The awards were chosen by national judges, including Steve Bedell, Doug Box, Eddie Tapp, Jane Lydick Staid, Don Chick, and Nancy Green.

Of the 167 prints entered, there were a total of 42 blue ribbons given out. Alana received two blue ribbons, two red ribbons, and one white ribbon for her efforts.

The photographer said that a few of her tips for better images are: “keep the horizon straight, move in closer to your subject, use a tripod – and be ready!”
