The 7th annual Maine Outdoor Film Festival will be held on Friday night, September 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Theater, 2493 Main Street, in Rangeley. The 37-minute film about Saddleback’s comeback story -- “More Than A Mountain” – will start off the eight-film program. Admission is $6; $3 for Appalachian Trail hikers and children under 12. Farmington Historical Society yard sale

Farmington Historical Society will be holding it's almost annual yard sale this coming Saturday, September 4th from 8 until 2 on the lawn of the Octagon House, corner of High and Perham Sts. The sale was not held last year so there will be more items for sale. All proceeds go to heating and maintaining the three buildings the society manages, the North Church, the Octagon also known as the Hiram Ramsdell House, and the Titcomb House. Funds are also needed to keep it's collection of historic Farmington artifacts and documents safe and available to the public. For more information

Western Maine Audubon will be presenting the first of its fall talk series on Wednesday, September 8 at 7 pm. “What You Should Know About the Threat of Aquatic Invaders in Maine,” will be presented by Roberta Hill, Invasive Species Program Director for Lake Stewards of Maine. In this talk, Roberta will address the following questions and more: What makes an organism invasive? What threats do invasive organisms pose to Maine’s native ecosystems? Free Outdoor Art Workshop

Elizabeth Olbert (faculty at UMF) will lead a conversation on the limits of realism and Andrew Wyeth’s depictions of Mainers before guiding participants through a multimedia art workshop. Artists and non-artists are welcome, and all art materials will be provided. Bagels and coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. Discussion and workshop begin at 10:00 a.m.

Public “Take Out/Pickup” meal

On Saturday, September 18, the Masonic Group at the Harland M. Harnden Masonic Building, 70 Bryant Road, East Wilton, Me., will be offering a Public "Take Out/Pickup" meal from 5 until 6:00 pm. The meal will be Chicken, stuffing, Potato, Vegetables, Rolls, and Apple Pie. $9.00 for adults and $5.00 for those under 12. Join Dawn Nye (Associate Professor of Art and New Media at UMF) for a free photography workshop that will feature: basics of composition, strategies to involve narrative in visual media, and hands-on practice. This workshop is for all levels and will allow participants to turn even the most casual, at-home photos into intriguing narratives while considering how you can tell stories through photography. If possible, please bring a camera or camera phone to this event. Please email the New Commons Project if you would like to come but will need to borrow a camera.

Norlands Civil War Weekend

The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore is hosting its Civil War Living History Weekend on October 9 and 10, 2021.  This family-friendly event features a wide variety of demonstrations, exhibits, and engaging activities remembering the activities of the Civil War. It is co-organized by the 3rd Maine Company A and 15th Alabama Company G to benefit Maine’s premier living history farm and museum. Union and Confederate military and civilian reenactors from across New England will be camped on the grounds. Walk through the encampments to experience what life was like for soldiers. Cavalry units are also planning to attend.

Join us as we welcome the Great Falls Model Railroad Club to Livermore Falls. They will have model trains on display.  We will also have a special exhibit featuring a model train crafted by Ralph Smith of Jay, generously donated to the museum.  In addition to learning more about trains, come tour the museum and check out our Yard Sale!  Event is free, but donations are appreciated as we raise funds to repair the museum roof and continue operations!
