Strong library’s Tails and Tales Reading Program is accepting sign ups now

It's not too late to sign up for this summer's Tails and Tales Reading Program with the Forster Memorial Library in Strong. We are accepting sign-ups until the middle of July and the program runs until Aug. 21. Prizes include Giffords, gift certificates to local bookstores, Subway, and the chance to win one of two bikes! The Jay-Niles Memorial Library is holding a summer-long used book sale to benefit children’s library programs. The book sale is open Monday & Tuesday 1-6, Wednesday & Thursday 12-5, and Friday 9-2.  Prices for books are by donation.  A wide selection of books is available in the library’s Memorial Hall in the upstairs of the library.  All are welcome to come shop through the huge collection of books, including books for children, teens, and adults, large-print books, paperback and hardcover books, fiction and nonfiction books, crafting books, and more.  We also have DVDs, VHS, CDs, vinyl, and audiobooks for sale.

Ecumenical church service

An ecumenical church service will be held 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Bass Park gazebo by Wilson Lake. Please bring your own chairs. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Dryden Baptist Church on Depot Street. Communion will be served. All are welcome.

Poet Linda Aldrich reads in Rangeley, August 8th

In Rangeley on Sunday, August 8th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Ecopelagicon nature store, the 14th annual Hugh Ogden Memorial Evening of Poetry will feature Rangeley and Portland poet Linda Aldrich reading from her new book, Ballast, which is available at Books, Lines, and Thinkers. The Evening begins with a brief community open reading of poetry; to sign up, come early or call Peggy at 864-3421. This event is free, and light refreshments will be served.
