Plein Air Watercolor Painting

Barbara Hathaway, Painter of Sunset, is offering two Plein Air Watercolor Painting Workshops through the Adult Education Program, April 26, 2022, Tuesday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at 32 Maple St. Wilton, and May 3rd, Tuesday, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the same location. Each workshop is $48 per person. Students bring their own Watercolor supplies with 140 lb. Watercolor paper and their own easel. Student can also use Acrylic with a canvas not larger than 16" x 20". Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus: A Centenary Celebration

Exactly a century ago, Rainer Maria Rilke created the fifty-five Sonnets to Orpheus within one month in what he called a "hurricane" of creativity. Farmington author, translator, Teacher, and community activist John Rosenwald will present and discuss his translations of Rilke's sonnets, recently published by covered bridge press.

Palaver Strings is a group of talented and socially conscious musicians from the Portland, ME area. Welcome Here celebrates the vitality of Maine’s indigenous and immigrant communities through music and storytelling. Palaver Strings, in partnership with the Abbe Museum, Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center, and Indigo Arts Alliance, will collaborate with guest artists of Wabanaki, Congolese and Puerto Rican heritage, sharing traditional music and personal narratives. The program explores themes of Motherland, Mother Tongue and Mother love--interweaving stories of our relationship with the natural world, our cultural and linguistic traditions, and our dreams for the future generation of our grandchildren

Western Maine Audubon presents “Maine’s Damselflies and Dragonflies” – a presentation by Dr. Ron Butler Western Maine Audubon will sponsor a presentation by Dr. Ron Butler titled, “Maine’s Damselflies and Dragonflies” on Wednesday, May 11th at 7:00 pm in UMF’s Lincoln Auditorium. This presentation—which is open to the general public—will begin with a general overview of the evolution, ecology, and behavior of damselflies and dragonflies (Order Odonata). This will be followed by a brief survey of some of Maine’s 161 known odonate species. Finally, conservation concerns for this important group of insects will be discussed, and resources to facilitate contributions
