Timothy Burris – “The Presence of the Past”

In the first half of the performance Timothy Burris plays baroque music from ca 1650 to 1720  on baroque lute, the second half is devoted to guitar music of the 20th through the 21st century.  The title “Presence of the Past” refers to the resurfacing of baroque and renaissance styles in the later modern guitar music. Timothy Burris is presently on the faculties of applied music of the Portland Conservatory of Music and Colby College. He received a performance degree in lute from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and holds a PhD from Duke University.  He has widely appeared

Veterans Day event in Readfield

An event honoring all Veterans will be held in Readfield on Friday, Nov. 11th planned by members of Readfield’s Historical Society, Select Board, United Methodist Church and the 3rd Maine Infantry Civil War re-enactors. All are welcome to join in for this special remembrance and honoring of those who have served or currently serve in the U.S. Armed Services. Participants should gather at the Readfield Corner Cemetery, Church Road by 10 a.m. for a special remembrance of some Veterans whose memorials and graves are there. The Dr. Shaw Memorial Library and Vienna Historical Society are co-sponsoring an author talk with local historian Dale Potter-Clark on Wednesday, November 16 at 6PM at the library, 344 Pond Rd., Mt. Vernon.  Potter-Clark will discuss her new historical novel about the Underground Railroad, Escape from Bunker Hill, the story of a Maine couple who move to Florida to help slaves escape north.  The book also follows 4 escapees as they head North and make their way through Maine.
