Good weather for mushrooms

1 min read

The Daily Bulldog’s Opinionated Gardener (aka Jo Josephson of Temple), found this huge Parasol Mushroom, (aka Macrolepiota procera aka Lepiota procero), in her neighbor’s field early Monday evening. Widespread and not uncommon, this mushroom is 40 cm or about a foot tall. According to NOAA’s official weather observer Dennis Pike, the Farmington area has nearly reached its 100-year total annual average for precipitation of 44 3/4 inches. In a normal year Pike said, we’d be slightly over half that amount this month. “It’s not record-breaking, but it is a considerable amount of rain,” he said.
