A  winter storm warning is in effect in this region, as a foot or more of snow is expected through tonight and into early tomorrow morning, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy snow began falling at about 12:30 p.m. in Farmington.

With temperatures in the single digits and, at times, strong northeast winds, blizzard conditions with widespread blowing snow should be expected. Wind chill factor as low as -13 tonight.

Travel will be difficult and should be avoided if possible.  Snow is expected to end by 7 a.m. Monday, but blowing, drifting snow will prove hazardous to motorists throughout the day. Bitter cold temperatures near zero are forecasted for Monday night. More snow is expected at the end of the week.
