FARMINGTON – First responders at the scene of a two-vehicle, multiple-injury tractor trailer rollover on the Farmington Falls Road have confirmed that one person was killed in the collision.
At about 9:30 a.m. this morning, Farmington police, fire and Northstar EMS ambulance personnel responded to the rollover, that occurred at the intersection of Farmington Falls Road, Main Street and Corn Shop Lane, which leads to the Department of Health and Human Services building.
A tractor trailer truck loaded with sawdust rolled over into the northbound lanes, spilling its load onto the shoulder. Also involved in the incident was a white Dodge minvan with Connecticut plates, which was partially crushed in the collision. One person in the van was killed, police said. No names have been released until police can notify family members.
According to FPD Officer Wayne Drake, the five or six individuals in the minivan were involved with a YMCA camp. In addition to the fatality, at least two other passengers were transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer truck was entrapped in the cab of his vehicle and Farmington Fire Rescue spent several minutes working with power tools to extract him. He was also transported to FMH on a backboard.
Farmington Falls Road is closed near the intersection with the Intervale Road, and Drake said he expected it could remain so for as long as four to six hours. A state police reconstruction team has been contacted, as well as a weight unit, since the collision involves a commercial truck.
More details on this incident will be posted as they become available.
