MSAD 9 towns approve Mallett School construction project

2 mins read

FRANKLIN COUNTY – An elementary school construction project in Farmington appeared to cruise to an easy victory at the polls Thursday, with the vast majority of voters approving the state-bonded design.

The new 60,000 square foot facility, for pre-K through third grade students, will cost an estimated $18.9 million to build on the current campus, 99.6 percent of which will be borne by the state’s bonding package and a Maine High Performance School grant of $150,000.

MSAD 9 will pay the other .4 percent, or $75,000. The school administration hopes ground would be broken in the spring of 2010 and completed roughly a year later.

A “yes” vote indicates that bonds should be issued for the project. A “no” vote indicates that bonds should not be issued for the project.
