Mt. Blue over Cony 3-2

1 min read

FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue High School senior midfielder Arin McLaughlin fires a shot in soggy conditions during the quarterfinal game today against Cony High School. At the half, Mt. Blue Cougars were up 2 goals without an answer from the Lady Rams. Nara Montenegro scored with 20 minutes left  in the first half and Hannah Allen blasted a long shot 9 minutes later. Cony came back with 2 goals in the second half, but Mt. Blue’s senior forward Marlie Mochamer fired a third shot into goal on an assist by Marina West that proved too much for Lady Rams.  The afternoon’s heavy downpour didn’t slow the players down one bit but the ball tended to stop dead in the field’s many puddles. Coach Dave Ronald said he was pleased with the team’s performance, despite the wet conditions. “They’re worked so hear to get here,” he said. The quarterfinal win ends an 18-year drought for home field quarterfinal play at Mt. Blue. The Cougars will probably play Waterville, who were 7-0 in their game against Morse this afternoon, 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Cony’s goal keeper Amy Jones lies in the wet grass following a goal by Mt. Blue’s Nara Montenegro in today’s quarterfinal game at Mt. Blue.
