NEW SHARON – A tractor trailer truck blocked the Industry Road for more than four hours early Friday morning, after it failed to negotiate a turn and slid into a ditch.

According to Sheriff Scott Nichols, Sgt. Matthew Brann responded at 4:26 a.m. Friday morning to a report of a truck blocking the intersection of the Industry Road and Bassett Road in New Sharon. The vehicle, a 2003 LT9500 hauling wood chips out of the Bassett Road, attempted to turn onto the Industry Road too sharply, Nichols said, resulting in the truck sliding off the road and into a ditch, tearing off the cab’s fifth wheel.

The operator and owner of the vehicle, Wesley Bowen, 61 of Kent’s Hill, was reportedly not injured in the incident.

The road was closed for more than four hours, as Dutch Auto Gap responded with multiple heavy lift rigs to remove the truck. Maine State Police Commercial Enforcement troopers were called to the scene to evaluate the condition of the truck.

  1. slid off the road my ….. he cut the corner to tight and the trailer went into the ditch, the road is posted that morning he was ok, but the night before they haul all night in 40 degree weather, they will be bill for the mess they make. With temps in the 40’s and 50’s two other logging companies shut down for a few days until temps drop back down, but not these guys, Loggers/truckers like this make it bad for all the other ones who play by the rules

  2. The trailer did not slide off the road the driver cut the corner too tight and drove the trailer into the ditch

  3. This logging company has been relentlessly logging and hauling att ever hour of the day no matter temps or posted signs! Made a huge inconvenience for everyone on the road not to mention hearing them at 5 am cutting and hauling off trees! I’m not a happy neighbor!

  4. Yes the road is posted and it was cold enough to be hauling. Me you would be surprised to know people in this town used to haul when it was too warm but needed the money to keep bills paid before they got the job they have now. I will let you figure out who. The industry rd and bassett rd are extremely narrow for this type of truck the ditch should be filled with wood and swamp mats like the company that cut there last year did. Until people hold a class A license they should refrain from criticizing those of us that do.

  5. In my opinion temps were plenty cold that morning, it was a great morning to truck, that road is definitely a beast of it’s own to navigate in a passenger car let alone a trailer truck, and it’s unfortunate the trailer couldn’t make the swing, on the plus side no one was injured, although there was some damage to the town tar road, the crew in there did a great job fixing the ditch line back up on the dirt road to prevent any additional spring run off issues.

  6. He was being considerate trying to stay off the lawn of the lawn owners across the road.
Whomever took this picture, did you get permission from the land owners to stand in their driveway?

  7. Me, the article clearly stated he took the turn too sharply. Mistakes can happen when people work and do things. Thankfully there are still more workers that occasionally make a mistake than people that jump on their computers and complain about them. Oh if we could all be perfect like ‘me’…….

  8. I can live with the making a living part but three outfits in there and nobody taking the time to fix that corner is pretty sad and why some people are left with a bad taste in their mouth when they view lumber operations. No one hurt but no profit on that trip.

  9. When delivering newspapers all around the area, I often found trucks hauling over posted roads early in the AM, trying to beat the mornig thaw, and or the police poking around.

  10. Hey Captain Planet before you start know-it-all you might want to re-read the article third paragraph towards the end slid off road into ditch

  11. Amazing how neighbors get so irritated by a fellow tax paying neighbor for hiring a contractor to come do work on their property. No different than having someone come put a roof on your house or mow your lawn or put on that new addition so your mother inlaw can move in. Last time I went by there was two different contractors on that same road. Everyone is quick to run their mouths. How would you feel if everyone was bitching about your new addition or the roof being installed and so on. Everyone just trying to make a living support families and survive. Think of that next time your at your job and someone is giving you a hard time.

  12. Funny how some of you can run ya mouths behind a computer screen.

Rebecca lemieux I watched the sheriff take multiple pictures from there driveway.

  13. Me, the third paragraph mentions the driver’s name and age. Paragraph 2 includes the phrases ‘attempted to turn onto the Industry Road too sharply’ and ‘resulting in the truck sliding off the road’. Sherriff Nichols wouldn’t lie about something so serious….

  14. Who said the sheriff was lying captain? Jordan that is all this place is most of the time most of the people crapping on him couldn’t drive a stick let alone a tractor trailer.

  15. No one said the sheriff was lying. People should try to comprehend what they are reading before responding.
