FARMINGTON – Titcomb Mountain in West Farmington opened for the 2011 season Saturday, with a number of skiing and snowboarding programs starting this week.

The mountain opened with two lifts in operation and three trails that were covered with packed powder from snowmaking operations. Families and many children were excited to be on the snow after a delay to the start of the season from mild temperatures and lack of natural snow. The cross-country ski trails are still closed until there is adequate coverage from natural snow.

A number of alpine skiing and snowboarding programs are scheduled to start this week for pre-registered students. These include the Nana Webber After-School program on Mondays and Wednesdays, the Saturday Ski and Snowboard School program and the Buddy Werner Learn to Race program on Saturday. The Bill Koch cross-country ski program is being postponed for one week.

The Farmington Ski Club owes a large thank you to all the snowmaking volunteers who helped get the trails ready. Snowmaking operations are scheduled to continue this week. We would also like to thank the Titcomb Ski Education Foundation, Franklin Savings Bank and other donors for helping with the expenses of snowmaking operations.
