WILTON – Current weather forecasts have organizers for the 15th Greater Franklin Business Expo smiling today, with good weather expected for Saturday’s big event.

The expo, which features a wide range of vendors, activities, food and fun for all ages, will be held at the Nichols Expo Center in Wilton on Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3 at the door.

Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lorna Dee Nichols said that organizers currently have filled more than 100 spaces with vendors.

“It’s going to be a great show,” she said.

Shannon Smith and Lorna Nichols of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce expect more than 100 vendors at the Business Expo Saturday.

In addition to the vendors, the chamber is organizing a number of events and competitions. A Chowdah Cook-off competition will be held, with entrees being judged and served to those present. First place takes home a traveling trophy which will be engraved with their name. At next year’s Expo, the trophy winner will need to return to defend the prize. Entrees for the cook-off need to be dropped off at the competition table by 11 a.m. Saturday, in some sort of a crock pot or similar device which can be self heated prior to the taste test.

Another contest will be to create the perfect Business Expo birthday cake, in honor of the 15th year of the event. Ribbons will be given to the winners, with the cake served with ice cream to expo attendees after the judging. Cakes need to be dropped off by 9 a.m. Saturday.

Some of the usual favorites will also be at the Expo, including the fishing pond for children, musical performances by local school children and animals from the Wildlife Kingdom in Mount Vernon, weather permitting. Nichols also said that the animal shelter and an animal rescue group have been invited to show off some of their furry charges. Decal Gymnastics School, out of Wilton, will put on a demonstration early that morning.

WKTJ will be broadcasting live from the event during the midday.

“It’s kind of something for everyone,” Nichols said, “from the little little to the older folks. It’s a hoot.”

In addition to the Chamber of Commerce, the Expo is sponsored by Franklin Savings Bank, Turner Publishing Inc. and a number of other companies.
