  1. On Saturday, March 21, I went to Gifford’s and ordered a small maple supreme sundae. The waitress asked me for $5.23. I said, “the price on your sign is $3.69.” She said, “That’s without tax.”

I don’t believe there is any tax that would raise the price of a $3.69 item to $5.23, but I was standing in a long line and didn’t want to hold everyone up by arguing with her. I paid what she asked for and took my sundae, which was good as usual. But I have never before known Gifford’s not to honor their posted prices, and I still don’t know whether this incident reflects a new policy of theirs or only one waitress with her hand in the till. Sent the company an e-mail yesterday and am waiting for a reply. They certainly don’t need to deceive their customers in order to sell ice cream. Have others had experiences like this?
