Maine School of Masonry takes 1st place in Mass. competition

AVON – Maine School of Masonry students Sam Young, left, and Shane Doyle took first place at the Massachusetts Trowel Trades Association’s masonry competition held in at North Shore Tech. in Middleton, Mass. on May 13. Young and Doyle competed in the newly added post-secondary division of the one-day competition, alongside nearly 100 sophomores, juniors and seniors from area Massachuesetts technical high schools. Different projects with varying levels of difficulty were assigned to each division, with the post-secondary competitors receiving the most difficult project. Young and Doyle, although allowed to work individually on separate projects, decided instead to work as a team to complete the project in the 3-hour competition. Both Young and Doyle received a new canvas masonry bag filled with new tools, as well as a brand new 4-foot level and masonry boots.
