School consolidation discussed Oct. 17

1 min read

FARMINGTON – On Friday, Oct. 17, 7 a.m. the Western Maine Legislative Caucus will host superintendents from the greater Farmington area including SAD 58, Rangeley and Jay at a public breakfast forum, “The Latest on School Consolidation: An Update for Voters”

at the University of Maine Farmington Olsen Student Center’s North Dining Hall.

Considered by some to be the most significant change in education administration since the creation of school administrative districts more than 50 years ago, the school consolidation process began in 2006 as the result of state legislation aimed at dramatically reducing the number of school units in Maine.

Voters from several towns will decide on consolidation proposals on Nov. 4. School administrators from Jay, Livermore Falls, Phillips, Rangeley, and Farmington will provide their perspective on the process at the October forum.

The Western Maine Legislative Caucus is an annual series of public forums on topics of interest to the region. The forum includes a free breakfast and is sponsored by the Western Mountains Alliance, University of Maine Farmington, Franklin Community Health Network, Greater Franklin Development Corporation, Mission at the Eastward, Western Maine Community Action Program, and MSAD9.
