AUGUSTA – Students in the culinary arts program at Central Maine Community College competed again this year in the annual 3-A-Day People’s Choice Award and Scholarship Contest, hosted at the Blaine House by Gov. John E. Baldacci and First Lady Karen Baldacci.

Future chefs from Maine’s five community college culinary arts programs participated with entries such as chocolate orange cheesecake, eclairs with crème anglais, raspberry coulis, and Hawaiian ambrosia. Recipes were required to include cow’s milk, cheese or yogurt as one of the main ingredients and provide 20 percent of the daily value for calcium.

Josh Long, student chef from Washington County Community College won this year’s award and a $500 scholarship for his lowfat blueberry custard brule. The CMCC students’ entry was a strawberry cream puff ring.
