FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington was recently honored with a prestigious award by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators at their regional conference for the New England states and Canadian Maritime provinces held in Hyannis, Mass.

Paul Curtis, a UMF senior from Durham, received the NASPA Maine Catch a Rising Star award given to an undergraduate student for demonstrated academic achievement, proven campus leadership and an interest in pursuing a career in the student affairs field.

Curtis, a business economics major, has worked with the UMF Office of Student Life since his sophomore year. Actively pursuing ways to contribute to the campus, he has served as a resident assistant at four campus residence halls over the course of three years, providing training and mentorship to new staff members. He has served with the residence life office as a special projects assistant, been instrumental in maintaining the student life website, completed a full academic year student services internship, and served as the president of the UMF Table Gaming Club.

“Paul is the perfect example of student success,” said Hollie Ingraham, director of the UMF Office of Student Life. “He has combined his passion for student services with his academic interest in business economics, to forge his own professional path. We’re so proud of his achievements.”

In addition to his involvement on campus, Curtis is also engaged in volunteer activities in the community. Having attained the rank of Eagle Scout, he has volunteered for civic projects in his home community of Durham as well as participated in UMF’s Month of Service and Western Maine Community Action’s Operation Santa Claus. After graduation, Curtis hopes to work in the campus residence life field in the New England area.
