FARMINGTON – The Maine Health Management Coalition recently updated its Web site for Maine
hospital ratings. Hospitals that are awarded a blue ribbon in both patient safety and select clinical quality are considered preferred hospitals under the state of Maine employee health plan, resulting in patient co-pays being waived for some services. A total of 26 hospitals are on the preferred list.

The preferred hospitals for the period from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2008, include: Bridgton Hospital, Calais Regional, Cary Medical Center (Caribou), Central Maine Medical Center (Lewiston), Downeast Community (Machias), Eastern Maine Medical Center (Bangor), Franklin Memorial Hospital (Farmington), Goodall Hospital (Sanford), Inland Hospital (Waterville), Maine Medical Center (Portland), Mayo Regional (Dover-Foxcroft), Mercy Hospital (Portland), Mid Coast Hospital (Brunswick), Miles Memorial (Damriscotta), Millinocket Regional, Mt Desert Island Hospital (Bar Harbor), Northern Maine Medical Center (Fort Kent), Parkview Adventist (Brunswick), Pen Bay Medical Center (Rockport), Penobscot Valley Hospital (Lincoln), Sebasticook Valley (Pittsfield), Southern Maine Medical Center (Biddeford), St. Joseph’s (Bangor), St. Mary’s (Lewiston), Stephens Memorial (Norway), and York Hospital.

State employees under the health plan can still receive health care from any Maine hospital; however, inpatient admission co-pays and outpatient surgery co-pays are waived if provided by a preferred hospital.
