FARMINGTON – HealthQuest Chiropractic of Farmington recently held an event to celebrate and honor their patients who are over 80 years young. The event was held at the University of Maine at Farmington North Dining Hall with an age range of patients from 80-95 years old.
“We want to celebrate people who are active and you’re all success stories,” said owner Dr. Jan Roberts and Dr. Jason Steinhouser added: “I’m grateful to help people along their path and you all inspire me.”
All the attendees live at home without outside nursing care and are witty, wise and warm with words of wisdom such as “eat healthy and stay active.” Erma Thorndike, who has been a patient of Roberts since 1989, said the secret to staying healthy is to “have a good attitude first thing in the morning” and says chiropractic care has “kept me going”. Beverly Eames, 86, said she has been taking natural vitamins since 1979 and is getting ready to celebrate her 69th wedding anniversary with her husband Dana, age 90.
Three of the attendees were age 90 or older and the eldest patient in attendance was Hyla Friedman who is 95 years old. She credits her good health to her heritage, having a good attitude with a sense of humor, never smoking, eating home cooked food in season, and doing lots of dancing.
HealthQuest chose to honor this population because they are proud of them and consider them to be like family. “This group of people work at staying healthy and active and we know chiropractic care in the elderly results in fewer hospitalizations and fewer medications, so it is exciting to see proof of this in these patients” said Roberts.
Olive Corson commented on the event saying it was nice to be thought of because “people don’t often think of 80 year olds” and her husband Bob Corson added that HealthQuest is “one of the best doctor’s offices we go to and we love you all.” Iva and Butch Graves thanked HealthQuest saying “Your caring, friendly, and smiling staff alone helps us to feel better and we are proud to be your patients and your friends” and Iva adds “you helped me become an 80 year old who still walks, talks, and leads a productive and active life”.
The staff was touched by the response of the attendees and felt reminded of the reasons they do the work that they do at HealthQuest. We can all be inspired by the attitudes and proactive approach this group of people takes to approaching life to live it to the fullest.
