CHESTERVILLE – A special town meeting has been scheduled for Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the town office to decide whether or not the town should purchase a used plow truck and repair the building’s leaky roof.

Selectmen are asking residents to appropriate $1,000 to repair the roof, which is leaking in a few places, and $70,000 to buy a 2004 plow truck to replace aging equipment. $25,000 of that vehicle’s total price would come out of the equipment reserve Fund, and the other $45,000 out of the undesignated fund.

“This won’t affect people’s taxes or anything,” Selectman John Worth said, noting that the expenditure would still leave roughly $250,000 in the undesignated fund.

The truck would replace either one or possibly even two pieces of equipment currently in use. Worth said that the vehicle under consideration had only 18,500 miles on it, and was in generally good condition.

“To buy a new truck would have cost $140,000,” Worth said. “We were lucky to stumble across this one while we were looking for something else.”
