JAY – The report of a stolen vehicle led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man now facing several charges, including drug possession and failure to submit to arrest following a chase by police.

Andre N. Roy, 27, was arrested and charged with failure to submit to arrest, a Class D crime; unlawful use of a motor vehicle, a Class D crime; operating after suspension, a Class D crime; and unlawful possession of a Schedule W drug.

The Jay Police Department received a complaint of a stolen vehicle at 11 this morning on Allen Street. Eighty minutes later Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier reportedly saw a vehicle matching the description traveling along the same road the vehicle had been reported missing. Fournier ordered the driver, who had pulled into the same residence the complaint originated, to stop, and radioed dispatch for assistance.

According to Police Chief Larry G. White, Sr., the driver then fled into the residence with Fournier running after him. “The male subject attempted to close the door to the residence as Fournier approached the door and he was able to force the door open as the subject attempted to force it closed. The subject ran up a stairway in the home with Fournier still in pursuit of him. Once in the second floor area of the home, Fournier was able to take the subject into custody,” White said.

Detective Richard Caton, IV, and Chief White, who responded to Cpl. Fournier’s call for assistance, arrived at the scene and assisted Fournier with the investigation.

The male subject was identified as Andre N. Roy, 27, of Jay. The home he had fled to belongs to a relative of his who is also the owner of the stolen vehicle. Caton searched an item belonging to Roy that he had dropped while being chased and found a small amount of morphine. While being searched after his arrest at the scene he allegedly was found to be in position of a hypodermic syringe and needle.

Roy has a court date of Sept. 24, 2009.
