Kingfield welcomes new board members

KINGFIELD – Look for new faces at next month’s planning board meeting, as four new members will begin serving the town on the second Monday of every month.

Chuck Twitchell, Brad Orbeton and Mark Wahl Jr. have been appointed to the board, effective immediately, following a selectmen meeting on Nov. 17. Thaniel “Babe” Smith will also join the board, but will wait until Dec. 1 to be officially appointed.

Smith will replace the outgoing Chairwoman Elizabeth Ann Listowich. Selectmen also accepted the resignations of Board Member Marianne Stevens, James Meldrum and Rose Winter. Administrative Assistant Greg Davis said that the majority of the outgoing board members did not give a reason for departing. He did note that Listowich had been responsible for recruiting many of the planning board members leaving the board.

“We’ve had some vacancies but they’ve quickly been filled,” Davis said. According to Davis, all seven spots on the planning board have now been filled.

The rapid replenishment of the board again gives Kingfield a quorum for which it can conduct business. Orbeton’s departure from the appeals board to the planning board means that there is now a single member-position and two alternate-positions open on that board.

Davis said a couple of residents had already come forward to be considered for a position on the appeals board. Selectmen will consider those appointments at their next meeting.
