Planning board to consider temporary parking lot for hotel

WILTON – The planning board will conduct a site plan review for a proposed parking lot near the Comfort Inn Thursday, as that hotel seeks a temporary place to park large trucks and other vehicles.

“They’ve got a situation where they want to park RVs and large vehicles,” CEO Paul Montague said, “that have problems navigating the lot near the building.”

When the existing parking lot is full, large vehicles have trouble maneuvering themselves into spaces.

The solution, which Comfort Inn says is a temporary one, is to use a nearby lot which they also own. That area has already been cleared, as the business seeks to attract a restaurant to the area. If approval is granted by the board, gravel would be used to create the new lot.

“It’s a pretty minor thing,” Montague said. “We’ll look over the proposal and check with MDOT.”
