EAST WILTON – Three people were sent to the hospital after being rescued from a car that landed upside down in a ditch filled with water 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Stephanie Randles, 36, of Wilton, was driving west on Route 2 when it appeared the car lost control near the intersection of Cemetery Road, hit a guardrail and landed in a ditch, according to Lt. Richard Caton of the Wilton Police Department. Rescuers worked to free Randles from the car that had flipped onto its roof, as water from the ditch quickly filled the car’s interior. Randles’ two passengers, Denae LaGrange,16, and Elsa Konopka, 15, were also helped out of the vehicle by emergency crew members.

All three were transported by NorthStar EMS to Franklin Memorial Hospital. Randles was transferred to Central Maine Medical Center complaining of back pain and suffered a possible head injury. A CMMC spokesman said Randles was listed in fair condition today. A spokeswoman at Franklin Memorial Hospital said the two teens were evaluated and released last night.

According to Caton and Officer Douglas Geis, criminal charges may be pending, as alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash.
