Wilton considers opening street to ATV traffic

WILTON – Selectmen will hear a proposal by a resident at Tuesday’s meeting that seeks to open up an avenue which all-terrain vehicle enthusiasts could use to visit the downtown area.

The proposal is being put forward by Mike Lee, the trailmaster for the local ATV club. He is requesting that Prospect Street be declared an ATV access route. He said this would let operators on the railway bed trail visit restaurants in the downtown Wilton area.

Town Manager Peter Nielsen said that Lee had discussed the plan in some detail with some of the people living on Prospect Street and had apparently drummed up some support for the idea.

“Mr. Lee has done a fair amount of preparation,” Nielsen said. “It’s up to the municipal officers to open a road up as an ATV access route.”

If interested, selectmen could scedule a public hearing on the matter to seek opinions from the public.
