Power outages were reported across Franklin County and the state today as a high pressure ridge swept in from the west causing strong, gusty winds that brought tree branches and power lines down.

Crews with Central Maine Power worked through Christmas morning to fix the reportedly 10,000 power outage calls that came in from across the state.

Farmington (Holley Farm Road, Holley Road, Morrison Hill Road, Strong Road, Sunset View Road, Water Street) and its district towns of Carrabassett Valley (Fox Hollow line), Chesterville (East Road and Sanborn Hill Road), Industry (Brickhouse Road, Watson Road), Jay (Wilton Road, Stubbs Mills Road), Madrid (Beech Hill Road, E. Madrid Road, Madrid Center Road, Wing Road, Winslow Pond Road), New Sharon (Church Road), New Vineyard (Cavanaugh line), Rangeley Plantation (Rabbit Lane) , Temple (Day Mt. Road, Kaiser line, Noel line, Potato Hill Road), Weld (Blanchard Road, Pease Pond Road) and Wilton all reported scattered power outages.

A cold front, pushed by a high pressure ridge from the west, sliced through the region bringing 45 mph gusts through the morning. Winds are expected to calm this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected between 35 and 40 degrees today. Friday looks to be a quiet weather day.
