Alys Luce Watson (1913 – 2009)

Alys Luce Watson, 95, of Farmington passed away on January 23, 2009 at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

She was born in Dixmont, Maine on April 4, 1913 the daughter of Warren B. and Frances M. (Coxford) Luce of Industry. Alys attended grade school in West Mills and Guilford, as well as high schools in Guilford, Farmington, and graduating from Williams High School in Oakland in the class of 1930.

She married Everett A. Watson in Farmington on April 19, 1931. They celebrated 46 years together until Everett passed away in 1976.

Alys was employed at various jobs throughout her lifetime, but her favorite was the 19 years she spent working at Alden Camps in Oakland. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting mittens and baby afghans to give away, reading, many crafts, attending Elder Hostels, sewing for her family, gardening both flowers and vegetables, and playing family card games while camping in Lexington with her family. She also was active in various fraternal and social organizations. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a past Matron, and past District Deputy Grand Matron, past Noble Grand of Acme Rebekah Lodge, a member of the Farmington Kitchen Band, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, DAR, and West Farmington Literary Club.

Alys is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Elaine) Burton of Oakland, and Mr. and Mrs. Lester (Gail) Smith of Lexington; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Fronk of Farmington; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver Jackie Boulette. Besides her husband Everett, she was predeceased by two much loved grandchildren Matthew and Maureen Burton.

A private graveside memorial service will be held in the spring under the direction of Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services 108 Court St. Farmington, ME 04938. Those wishing may make memorial donations to Shriners Hospitals, c/o Kora Shrine Center, 11 Sabattus St., Lewiston, Maine 04240.
