AUBURN – Anna Margaret (Backmeier) Eggers, 98, of Wayne, died Tuesday morning, July 9, 2008, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

She was born on Jan. 26, 1910 in Basbeck, Germany, one of nine children to, Herman and Katherina (Tiedemann) Backmeier. She was educated in German schools.

Anna emigrated to the U.S. in 1926 and worked as a governess in Amityville, NY. On May 7, 1933 she married, Henry Eggers in Jersey City, NJ. When Mr. Eggers left for WWII she took over his position as manager of a Bohack store. She then went into a partnership and bought a German-American restaurant in Wontaugh, NY that she operated for 35 years.

Upon retirement she lived in Mendham, NJ and moved to Wayne 15 years ago. She was the consummate homemaker and wonderful cook. She was a gentle, kind and non-judgmental person who also loved to read and garden.

She is survived by twin daughters, Elsie Dragonetti and her husband, George of Wayne and Edna Howard of Ossian, IN; grandchildren, Doreen Tyburski and her husband Charley of Morristown, NJ, Pamela Hedden of Wayne, George Dragonetti and his wife, Christine of Hamilton, Bermuda, Matthew Dragonetti and his wife, Jennifer of Paget, Bermuda, Carol Payne and her husband, Scott of Covington, GA, William Howard and his wife, Angela of Hamilton, IN and Carie Howard of Ossian, IN; great grandchildren, Erin Kennedy, Adam Tyburski, Matthew Tyburski, Larry, Anna and Frank Hedden, George, Luke and Kathryn Dragonetti, Caroline, John, Henry and Hope Dragonetti, Ryan, Mandy and Sara Zuver, Alexander Howard, Cameron and Taylor Zuver and Logan McElwaney.

Memorial services will be held, 11AM, Sat., Aug. 2, 2008 at the Wayne Community Church with Pastor Kristen White, officiating. Private family interment will be at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. Gifts may be given in her memory to the Wayne Community Church, P.O.
