Arlison Ervin Maxwell (1927 – 2008)

LEWISTON – Arlison Ervin Maxwell, 81, of Perkins Plantation, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston surrounded by his loving family.  He is now in Heaven with his favorite “Grampa Nate” who has been watching over his loved ones, as well as playing a few practical jokes for years.

He was born Mar. 17, 1927 in Weld, the son of Phillip Ervin and Etta Everline (Raimey) Maxwell.  He graduated first of two in his class from Weld High School in 1945.  He joined the Navy a week later and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater until his honorable discharge in 1946.

On Oct. 21, 1964 he married Gracie Scott in Dixfield.

Arlison worked for the Maine State Highway Department of Transportation for 31 years, retiring in 1985.  He was a member of the Mystic Tie Lodge #154 AF & AM, the Kora Shrine as well as a past moderator of the Weld town meetings.

He enjoyed fishing and going to his hunting camp near the bluff in Weld with his family and friends.  He also drove a stock car at Oxford Plains Speedway for years.  His favorite times though were spent with his children and grandchildren teaching them to hunt, fish and snowmobile.  He was an avid storyteller and his amazing talent to pass down stories from past generations will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Gracie of Weld; four children, Leanna Pratt and her companion, Skip Herrold of Farmington, Scott Pratt and his wife, Nancy of Weld, Melanie (Maxwell) York of Wilton and Dennis Maxwell of Portland; seven grandchildren, Jessi (Pratt) Sawyer and her husband, Scott of Weld, Heather Pratt of Weld, Travis Pratt of Weld, Amanda Hastings and her fiancé, Luke Haines of Avon, Krista Hastings and her companion, Garrett Fournier of New Vineyard, Daniel York of Wilton and Kaitlyn York of Wilton; three great grandchildren, Summer Sawyer, Bailea Haines and Ashton Fortenbacker.

Memorial visitation will be held, 5-7PM, Wed., July 16, 2008 at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton.  Gifts may be given in Arlison’s memory to the Mystic Tie Lodge, c/o Kurt Moody, 21 Applewood Dr., Wilton, ME 04294 or to the Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396.  Words of condolence may be sent to wilesfuneralhomes@verizon.net
