Betty Enman (1931-2008)

AUBURN – Betty Enman of Phillips, Maine, died Sunday evening July 20, 2008, following a year-long struggle with cancer, at the Hospice House in Auburn, with family by her side.

She was born April 11, 1931 in West Peru, the third daughter of six children of Waldo and Ruth (Drake) Porter. She attended Peru and Dixfield schools. She worked in several area businesses and then married John Enman in 1954.  She had four children and in addition, worked as an antique dealer for over 40 years.

Betty’s main interest were her children and grandchildren for whom she prepared many meals over the years.  She loved her flowers and enjoyed music and playing cards.  She also enjoyed visits with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her husband, John of Phillips and children Ruth Jackson of Lewiston; Shirley and her husband, Brad Johnstone of Raymond; Phil Enman and his companion, Patty Knox of Farmington; and Johnny Enman and his wife, Donna of Hanover; eight grandchildren; sisters: Pauline Puiia and her husband, Joe of Rumford; Pearl Williamson and her husband, Richard of Lewiston and Mary Bachelder and her husband of New Hampshire.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Maxine Hayden and a granddaughter Rebecca Johnstone.

Special thanks to Nan Reed and Lynnette Howard and the Hospice House in Auburn and all members of Hospice who helped in Phillips; Nancy Wilkins who did her hair; Richard Waddell and many friends in the community who dropped off gifts and offered many prayers.

Public memorial services will be held Thursday morning, July 24 at 10 AM from the Phillips Congregational Church.  Committal prayers will follow at Demerritt Cemetery, Rte. 108, Peru.  Those who desire may give gifts in her memory to the Hospice House 236 Stetson Rd.
