Clarice C. Scholl (1921-2008)

FARMINGTON – Clarice C. Scholl, 86 formerly of Calais, a kind woman with a gentle spirit, died on August 23 in Farmington where she had moved to in 2006 to be close to her family. Her concern and love of her family and friends was the focus of her life.

She was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Skowhegan, the third daughter of Moody and Gertrude Libby Jewell. She was a graduate of South Portland High School. Mrs. Scholl was a homemaker and helped her husband in the family funeral home and flower shop in Calais. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, charter member of the Boyd-Smith VFW Auxiliary, the Sherman Brothers American Legion Auxiliary, and the Orion Chapter #45 of the Order of the Eastern Star all of Calais.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She taught Sunday school for over 20 years, and she enjoyed reading. She and her husband enjoyed the 15 winters they spent in Florida as well as the summers at their cottage at Meddybemps Lake.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harold Scholl of Farmington; one son, Ernest and his wife Margaret of New Sharon; three grandchildren, Jennifer Currier and her husband Michael of Virginia, Nathan Scholl and his wife Kimberly of Indiana, and Amy Scholl of New Sharon; one great-grandson, Brandon of New Sharon; a sister-in-law, Ann Jewell of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a very dear friend of over 60 years, Natalie Doyle of Florida, whom she thought of as a sister. She was predeceased by two sisters: Jeannette Cole and Irene Parsons, a brother, Frederick Jewell, and a grandson, Jeffrey Scholl.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Wednesday 2-4 pm where there will be an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 2:30 pm. Interment will be on Thursday at 12 pm at the New Maine Veterans, Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Paws Humane Society, 84 South Street, Calais, ME 04619.
