NEW SHARON – Eugene E. Martineau, 88, of New Sharon Maine, passed away on February 7, 2021 at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Eugene was born June 23, 1932 in New Haven, CT to Wilfred H. Martineau and Alberta Kane. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1949 to 1953 aboard the USS Macon as an electrician.

Eugene married Jeanne Duquette Martineau on May 21, 1955. They had two daughters Catherine and Patricia.

After serving in the US Navy, he worked as an electrician at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT. from which he retired in 1980. In 1981 he and his family moved to New Sharon, where they owned and operated the Krackling Log Kampground. He also worked at Franklin Memorial Hospital in security where he had many loving friends.

He is survived by his daughter Catherine Johnston and her husband Ray, and daughter Patricia McAllian-Ayinde and her husband Sulaimon and stepson Desmond as well as many other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Jeanne Martineau. Eugene was loved by all that he met.

Private interment will be at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Rd. in Augusta. Arrangements are cared for by Wiles Remembrance Center: Adams-McFarlane Chapel 137 Farmington Falls Rd.   1. Gene was an incredible contribution to Franklin Memorial Hospital – a wonderful security guard and then volunteering thousands and thousands of hours there as well. Gene always had a smile and a chuckle to share…and always so kind to everyone he met. The world will miss the likes of Gene Martineau. Godspeed old friend.

  2. He was an Awesome man, enjoyed my conversations I had with him and enjoyed working with him while he was volunteering for Franklin Memorial. He will be greatly missed!! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family!!

  3. He was a true hero the night he saw the burgelers breaking into the Mt Blue Health Center in 1985. Thanks to him they were caught. He was a very nice man and a value to our community.

  4. I knew Gene through my whole career at FMH. He was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.

  5. To Genes family, I have many fond memories of Gene. From long ago when he would bring fresh coffee to ICU at 3AM and would clean the snow off our cars before we left in the morning to having him welcome me at the MAC building each day. A kind soul to be missed by all. My condolences.

  9. Sincere condolences to Gene’s family. It was always a comfort to see him in the middle of the night when on duty and whenever.we ran into each other after retirement. He always had a smile and positive attitude.

  10. I always loved seeing Gene in Douin’s Market. He was one of our first customers and welcomed us into the community with open arms and a most friendly and sincere hope for success. He was always good for chat and through the years became a friend.
    He will be surely missed by many.

  11. I will never forget everytime Gene would come in the store and we would say “Hi Gene” (hygiene) he would say I sure do! And the the lady slippers count each year! Heaven gained a wonderful angel! Love to the family during this time and after.

    joy to chat with him. His wild Lady Slipper gardens were amazing and Gene loved sharing their unique
    beauty with others.

  14. Gene was a wonderful caring man and my friend for many years. He looked out for so many of us at FMH.
    One the kindest caring people I have ever met.
    His lady slippers were his pride and joy and he even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records!
    There is hole in my heart!

  15. I always felt safe when I came out of work at night. He would walk me to my car and brush the snow off and shine a light inside to be sure i didn’t have an unwanted passenger. I smile just thinking bog his kind ways. A peaceful man.
