Jeannette Eva Croteau (1917-2008)

FARMINGTON – Jeannette Eva Croteau, 91, of Farmington, formerly of Haverhill, Mass.,  died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Pinewood Terrace, Farmington, where she was a resident.

She was born May 14, 1917, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of Ephraim and Rose (Legault) Lemire.  She received her education in Haverhill schools and Essex Agricultural School where she learned the fine art of tailoring. In 1935, she married William J. Croteau in Haverhill. He predeceased her on March 23, 1969. She was employed as a fancy stitcher for a number of shoe shops in the Haverhill area.  She later worked for Western Electric and New Balance.  Her hobbies and talents included knitting, crocheting and sewing.  A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed raising her family and instilled a strong work ethic in her children.

She is survived by three daughters: Donna Gish and her partner, Kary Laban of Strong; Carole Taylor and her husband, Frederick Taylor of Dacula, Georgia; and Joanne Harold of Lake Wales, Florida; one son: William Joseph “Bill” Croteau and his wife, Joanne of Amesbury, Mass.; one sister: Yvonne Beaupreau of Haverhill, Mass.; 9 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday September 13, 2008 at 10 AM from St. Joseph’s Lower Church, Amesbury, Mass.  Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her memory to the Pinewood Terrace Resident Activity Fund, 136 Rosewood Drive Farmington, ME.  04938.  Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, Maine  04938.  Online condolences may be sent, via e-mail, to mailto:wilesfuneralhomes@verizon.net
