Joanne Wilber James (1931-2009)

MADRID – Joanne Wilber James, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at her home in Madrid Township.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1931 in Madrid, Maine, the daughter of Dean and Ruth (Brown) Wilber. She graduated from Phillips High School class of 1949 and married Owen James Dec. 25, 1952.

She loved gardening and outdoor activities. She loved being with family and helping out where she could. And giving all the love she had to all the kids. She worked for many years in Cromwell Wood Turning, Wood Heel Mill and Coombs Shoe. She served the town of Madrid as town clerk and treasurer for over 20 years. She loved traveling. She and her husband visited every state but Alaska and Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband Owen James, a sister Athylie and her husband Robert Scott; two brothers, Rodney Wilber, and Jack Wilber and his wife Audry, sister-in-laws Ruth Wilber and Gloria Trembly and sister-in-law Brenda and her husband Neal Labreque; two godson’

s Randy Wilber and Richard Wilber, a much loved godson Randy Dean Wilber, Jr., a special nephew John Wilber and two special nieces, Darlene Heath and Debora Dudley, several loving nieces and nephews all of whom had a special place in her life and heart.

She was predeceased by her son, Larry O. James, her mother Ruth Wilber and father Dean Wilber, sisters Myrlyn Wilber and Iris Waters and brother Bernald Wilber.

At Joanne’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment will be in the Dunham Cemetery in Madrid Township later in the spring.

  1. joanne james was more my mom than my aunt. i miss her dearly i think about her everyday and wishing she was still here. she was the greatest person i have ever met. i know she is looking down on me and helping me in life because she always did when she was here with us.
