Michael R. Cobb (1948-2009)

BANGOR – Michael R. Cobb, 60, of New Sharon, formerly of Manchester, died Saturday morning at East Side Rehabilitation Center in Bangor.

He was born in Mattapoisett, Mass., March 22, 1948, a son of Richard “Dick” Standley and Marjorie (Weber) Cobb. He was a graduate of Mattapoisett High School and graduated from Southern Maine Technical College with a degree in culinary arts.

Mr. Cobb worked as a chef at several restaurants; Choice’s in Manchester, Hazel Greene’s, and the Samoset Resort in Rockport to name a few. He was a member of the National Pigeon Association, the American Pheasant and Waterfowl Society, and the Pigeon Flying Club. He was a breeder of “Ice Pigeons” and raised water buffalo, llama’s, and peacocks and was known as the “Bird Man of Manchester.”

Mr. Cobb was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Linda VanHorn Cobb of New Sharon whom he married on June 22, 1995; his mother, Marjorie of Camden; four daughters, Michelle Cobb of Conway, NC, Teesha Bragg of Bangor, Tanya Cobb of Brewer, and Tiffany Cobb of Bucksport; a brother, Stephen Cobb and his wife Becky of Friendship and Florida; an aunt, Martha H. Cobb of Owls Head; 7 grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Katherine Lapierre of Manchester and son-in law Gilbert W. Lapierre of Bridgton, Maine, a niece Jennifer Burns of Cushing, Maine and a nephew Joshua Cobb of Durham, Maine.

Memorial services will be held in the spring at the New Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Messages of condolences may be shared with the family at info@wilesrc.com. Cremation services are being cared for and provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center – Cremation and Funeral Services, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.
