Ocala, FL – Michael Robert Abbott passed away on January 25, 2021 at age 69 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Belfast, Maine on April 28, 1951, he was soon adopted by two loving parents, Lewis and Mertie Abbott. He graduated with the last class from Phillips High School in 1969 and, in 1970, he started with the Seaward Utility Group as a third-class lineman, eventually working his way up to supervisor. When not doing line work, he also drove pulp trucks and cut wood.

In 1988, he started Abbott Line Construction, which he sold in 2005. He then worked for Coutts Bros until his retirement in 2014. Finding retirement too boring, he started Abbott Line Construction back up. He worked there until 2019, selling once more to Integrity Powerline Construction and continued to happily work with them until his death. He recently celebrated 50 years in the line work industry.

He enjoyed all things outdoors, especially flying his powered parachute. He loved being with his family (including his “line family”), friends and his dogs.
He is survived by his significant other, Linda Ford, his daughter Micha Abbott Sabovik and son-in-law Michael Sabovik; sons Michael “Cubby” Abbott II and Kristopher Newman; daughters-in-law, Jennifer Abbott and Sara Newman; grandkids Tori, Mason, Caleb, Harper, Shelby and Jack; his sister Elaine Holbrook and brother-in-law Cecil Holbrook; nieces Karen Holbrook and Taren Bate and many grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by Mertie and Lewis Abbott as well as his nephew Aaron Holbrook.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, services will not be held. A celebration of his life and accomplishments will be held at a later date, to be announced.
