STRONG – Nancy K. Lewis, 73, of Strong, passed away at home on July 8, 2021.
Nancy was born on Jan. 1, 1948, to George and Ruth (Vollmer) Lewis in Farmington, Maine. Nancy was educated in Maine receiving her bachelor’s degree in regular and special education from the University of Maine at Farmington and her master’s in special education from the University of Southern Maine in 1991. Nancy began her teaching career in 1971 working in various school systems. Her last 30 years in education were as a special education director of a public school regional program for special needs children located in Auburn.
Through her life and career, Nancy worked with hundreds of children and families helping them build relationships and make positive changes. The strength she brought to these relationships included humor, a calm caring presentation and a genuine interest in people’s wellbeing.
She liked to play. Hobbies included being outside, reading and experimenting with different recipes for all to consume. Her love of animals, great and small, was well known. Nancy always adopted the strays. She enjoyed sharing food, quick witted humor and genuine affection with everyone she came in contact with.
She is survived by her sister Sharon Monroe of Farmington and her two children Mary Letourneau and Paul Monroe and their children. Her sister-in-law Jackie Lewis of Richmond and her three children Betsy Bowie, Scott Lewis and Patty Rodeenour and their children. Also, her cousin Kate Noble.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George Lewis, Jr. and her brother-in-law Leroy “Gus” Monroe.
