LEWISTON – Placide Gerard “Gerry” Hachey, 89, of Livermore Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at the Central Maine Medical Center, in Lewiston.

He was born on July 4, 1919 in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of George and Agnes (Doiron) Hachey. He graduated from Jay schools after moving to the area as young boy.

Mr. Hachey married, Diana Henry on Feb. 16, 1942, at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Worcester, MA where he was living at the time. He was later drafted in the U.S. Army at the start of WWII and served with the Harbor Craft.

He worked for 27 years as a hand sewer at G.H. Bass and later for 10 years at James River Paper Co. in Jay. In between the time with G.H. Bass and James River he worked as a custodian with the Livermore Falls schools and St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

Placide was a communicant of St. Rose and served as one of the early Eucharistic ministers there. He also served on the Parrish Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a hard working man who always kept himself busy whether it was woodworking or doing a little gardening. He loved traveling and camping with his wife, Diana, especially the 40 years in Wells with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Diana of Livermore Falls; children, Helen Souther and her husband, Clark of Livermore Falls, Janice Hughes of Alexandria, VA and Dennis Hachey and his wife, Shirley of Bangor; a brother, Ernest Hachey of Fitchburg, MA; a sister, Elodiane Richard of Cherry Valley, MA; 10 grandchildren, Russell Souther, Randall Souther, Ryan Souther, Carla Souther Lesko, Christie Souther Beliveau, Nicole Hughes Bozman, Michelle Hughes Sullivan, Jonathan Hughes, Bella and Meehka Hachey; 17 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Annie Hachey; a brother, Jude Hachey; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Hachey; a son-in-law, Ronald Hughes; a granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Souther.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 11AM, Thu., Sept. 11, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima church in Jay with Rev. Roger Chabot, celebrant. Family and friends are invited to call 2-4 & 6-8PM, Wed., Sept. 10, 2008 at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Rd., Rte. 133, Jay where the Knights of Columbus will perform a ritual at __PM.
