Roy Lamkin Jr. (1931-2023)

FARMINGTON – Roy Lamkin, Jr., 91, formerly of Chesterville, passed early Thursday morning at the Pierce House where he made his home for the last several years. He was born August, 8, 1931, the son of Roy and Florence (Soper) Lamkin, Sr.. He went to grammar school in North Chesterville and graduated from Farmington High School in 1949. He attended Farmington State Teacher’s College for 1 1/2 years and then went to work at Lamkin’s Poultry Farm and married Janette Wright on June 14th, 1953. She passed April 1, 2010.

In May of 1955, he was drafted into the United States Army and served at Fort Riley, Kansas until May 1957. He retired from the University of Maine at Farmington where he worked as a master electrician in 1989. He was a former member of Maine Lodge #20 of Farmington. He also was a Past President and former member of the Farmington Lions Club and had served the town of Chesterville as a Selectman for 8 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was grateful to have made his home at the Pierce House in his later years.

The family would like to thank the Pierce House for the loving care given to Roy while residing there.

He is survived by two nephews, Bruce and Ronald Ridley and their families. Private family interment will be at the Webster Cemetery in Farmington. Memories may be shared in his Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com. Cremation care has been cared for and provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington.

  1. So sorry to hear about Mr. Lamkin. I cleaned for him for a couple years and he always was so kind and often found reading his newspaper in his recliner. He loved to talk about his wife and tell me about the birds in his feeder. My condolences to his family.

  2. A real gentleman, soft spoken but unfailingly cheerful. Recall he was county chair of Governor John H. Reed’s re-election some years ago. (Reed won). His wife Janette I also remember well from her years when she and Colon Durrell ran the county Farmers Home Administration loan offices on Pleasant Street.

  3. I was a soldier also in Ft.Riley and we lived same apartment in Manhatten Kansas! After discharged we were close to him and visited them for years in Aug. & Sept.and went to the county fairs , and he showed us a lot of Maine which was very interesting as we really enjoyed! Also enjoyed lobster many times. From 1958 until he went to the Pierce House we went up to Maine ,and had a good time! Sorry to see him passing4rff away! A

  4. We were together in the army at N.J.& Kansas for 18 months and lived off post in same apt.house in Manhattan over a month. After discharge 3 years later we started going to Maine a week in Aug. & Sept.to visit the fairs.everything was enjoyed,especially the harness races! Roy took us all over central Maine & made sure we had lobster at times! We visited until he went into Pierce House in Farmington.All the years up there we did get to see a moose! He also showed us the cabin at the lake & enjoyed hearing the loones & watching them swim & dive under.we sure miss those days & are sorry to hear he passed away!
