NEW SHARON – Ruth Ann Carson of New Sharon was called home by our lord on September 18, 2009. She has always been known by her loved ones as a strong and amazing woman who lived life to the fullest even when faced with unimaginable adversity. Ruth Ann possessed an infectious attitude and a lust for life and those around her benefited greatly from living in her shadow.

Ruth Ann was born April 18, 1946, to the late Linwood and Harriet Laney in Gardiner, Maine, where she resided most of her youth. Later in life she moved to, and lived out her years, in New Sharon, Maine with her husband Randy Carson where they managed and operated R and R Carson Trucking and raised their family.

Throughout her entire life Ruth Ann fostered a love of the outdoors. Ruth Ann was a champion snowmobile and mud truck racer with numerous state and national wins to her title. Later in life she immensely enjoyed feeding and observing the multitude of birds and animals that frequented her home outside of New Sharon. Additionally she looked forward to yearly camping trips with her husband, friends and beloved and faithful dogs, Stella, Stacey and Megan and an especially cantankerous African Grey Parrot she fondly called JJ.

Ruth Ann is survived by her husband of 32 years, Randall B. Carson of New Sharon. Her children: son William Groder of Wiscasset, Maine, son Shawn Groder of Anchorage, Alaska, and daughter Kimberly Ann Heerdink and husband Neil of Greenwood, Louisiana. Her step children: Troy Carson and wife Sherrie of Farmington, Maine and Todd Carson of New Portland, Maine. Grandchildren Leah Everetts of Denver, Colorado, Josh Groder of Wiscasset, Zach Groder of Windsor, Missouri and Riley Heerdink of Louisiana. Brothers William Laney and wife Mary of Gardiner, Richard Laney and wife Lorna of Gardiner; Mother-in-law Maxine Carson of New Sharon and additionally, her best friends, Cindy Cassidy and Allison Haines.

In lieu of flowers please send donations in Ruth Ann’s honor to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Rd Farmington, ME 04938-5633. Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Funeral Home, Cremation Service & Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington.  Words of condolence may be sent via email to info@wilesrc.com.
