Letter to the Editor: An unscientific poll

1 min read

After the deluge of political opinion polls using various different criteria from many different people categories, I found another that may be more or less correct than others.

Today I drove from Wilton to Auburn via Route 4 and returned to Wilton through Greene and Livermore Falls. I counted only the political signs of the Presidential candidates littering the sides of the highways. The final tally was 21 Obama signs to Romney’s Zero. That’s correct: Zero.

Now, how this unscientific survey will translate into statewide votes is anyone’s guess, but I think it indicates that Obama/Biden are definitely the favorites on the Wilton/Auburn corridor.

  1. I was thinking the other day while driving around that there are not many presidential signs at all. Lots of local tho. That tells me that most people are not happy with either choice. A lot of holding our noses and voting.

  2. Or,,,,,,maybe it’s just that Romney supporters are too busy working and are less LOUD than OBUMMER supporters,,
    Yes,,I think That’s why.

  3. Oh yes and the people with all those O-bumma signs on their front lawns are scared that he’s going to loose.
I’ve never seen such a sorry representation of a president of this great country than the night of the 3rd.

  4. The number signs that are put out on lawns and other places amount to exactly jack squat. Or less.

  5. Those OBummer Signs she saw,,.
    Could mean many many things,,,,

    Like;
That particular village is looking for their idiot?? (O,,,,,what’s his name)
They are all Union “People”?? (teachers,,old papermakers,,,surprise!!)
Romney really “IS” the devil and they are the only ones who know the truth?? (Wow)
They are all on or wannabe on,,,welfare?? (cant blame them for supporting O,,,what’s his name again)
Not ONE of them has actually “BUILT a BUSINESS”?? (cause you CANT without the GOV,,,right)
They still want the Hope and Change they were promised?? (they know it’s very very late coming but,,,,,,)
It’s a Vast Left Wing Conspiracy (lol remember that one)?? (ask Billery what this means)

It is my opinion that the only people in this list that know exactly what they are doing are the welfare recipients,,,They have ARRIVED and wanna STAY THERE !!!
The rest of em are lost.

  6. It seems if you don’t have anything intelligent to say you make fun of someone’s name.

  7. Please note that when you go South on Rt 4, where all the union people are, you will only see obama signs.
    Says something.

  8. here in my town the town of Strong
there are more Romney/Ryan Signs than Obama signs.
there are only two Obama signs one on someones private lawn and the other at the intersection of Rts 4 and 45
guess it shows people around this town at least figure four years of Obama were a great plenty.
i see no Obama signs on rt.4 entering into Farmington either. At least not yet.
How any one desire or want four more years of what we have already been through or worse? hard to Figure.
out what people are thinking of.
and why everyone is so quick to judge the person of Mitt Romney when they do not even know him personally
    is beyond understanding.
the signs do not influence my decision.
I am voting for Romney/Ryan myself and i am a retired Senior Citizen.

  9. I don’t have a sign out and I plan on voting for Romney Ryan as many times as possible. After that debate there is no question Obama is in over his head, I think he is still surfing YouTube for a video to blame on his performance.

  10. Until last week there were no Romney/ Ryan signs in Maine. There was a severe shortage, in fact. There will be more seen now.

  11. A retired sc from Strong voting for romney.. One of the few 47%’ers on the dole voting republican.
good gracious, what is this state coming to?

  12. It always stuns me when people decide to vote against their own best interests. Change the channel, Romney lovers – away from Fox. Do you know that AARP has advised seniors to vote against a Romney/Ryan ticket? Do you know that Romney/ Ryan have said they’ll repeal women’s rights over their own bodies? Romney has said (and we should all believe him) that he is not working for the 47%, who don’t pay income taxes. That includes seniors and deployed military. What are you thinking?

  13. I saw a sign that said,,,Manure Wanted.
WOW,,,,everyone in that town must love manure.
    I saw it,,,I saw it.

  14. To Laura and Huh!
    you both sound like liberals.
i have to tell you i am registered as a Democrat and regret that fact.
hardly see fit to vote that way tho most of the time.
i try to vote the better choice.
Sorry this time i do not consider Obama it>
As for what the A A RP. says or thinks i could care less.
i am not a member of it and do not ever intend to be.
their thoughts and opinions are their own.
for your Info I do not everwatch Fox Channel or any of those other Liberal Media channels.

    and to huh.
I do not worry about being one of the 47% and voting the way i intend to.
if i am as you seem to think..>
i just want to say I believe i am entitled to Social Security Retirement since i worked hard for years contributing into the system.
i feel i am entitled to get a little bit of it back.I might add not nearly enough tho.
i am sure you plan to draw yours in your retirement years.as well.

  15. People on Social Security (since they don’t pay income tax) are part of the 47% that Romney said are “entitled” and see themselves as “victims” and not the people he plans to represent. He said it. It was recorded. His plans for social security and medicaire will not serve seniors. That’s why the AARP, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization for seniors, has not endorsed him, but advised their membership (50 and older) to vote for Obama. I do plan to draw social security and medicaire, both of which I thank the dems for.

  16. Hutch: “I plan on voting for Romney Ryan as many times as possible.”

I always had a feeling that it wasn’t democrats committing voter fraud. Or if they are, at least they’re not brazen enough to boast about it in public.

  17. Doesn’t it all come down to jobs.
Working people buy goods, pay taxes, have healthy families and build strong communities.
Ask the business folks what is best for them to grow.
Probably not mandated health insurance and more federally mandated programs to raise local taxes.
Remember: Think globally and act locally.
I am being misled by less than 600 millionaires inside the beltway that sacrifice little for my own good, don’t let this happen to you.
Get all the facts and vote.

  18. @wowzas,
Find a dictionary and look up the word humor. You can’t be serious. Can you?

  19. I’ve never known Hutch to be humorous.

As for your reading of my comment, perhaps you should follow your own advice. Can you?

  20. Humor (sense of), some have have it, some don’t

Republicans tend to be “humor challenged” as a matter of course and are just too proud to avail themselves of the “entitlement” contained in the ACA (Affordable Care Act) provision designed specifically to help them

    Conservatives just giggle/grin unobtrusively/quietly

I don’t recall exactly where the provision is providing for the therapy to deal with the affliction is in the ACA

It’s either just before or after the “death panel” provision

I’m a tax payer and don’t mind helping anybody out (or pointing out the direction where it might be found)
