Letter to the Editor: Geothermal not the way to go

1 min read

I am curious as to who is pushing all the geothermal installations? They do not work and require an alternate heat source for the winter. There are better systems that are being put in and pay for themselves within a year or two.

Check out the new heatring and cooling systems that are being put into the Lewiston and Auburn School System. Geothermal is way too costly and not effective.

  1. I have used a geothermal installation for the past two years and have been very pleased with it. I do have to burn a little wood when the temperature falls below 0 and the wind is blowing. I used to burn about 8 cords a year and a couple of hundred gallons of oil.The the electricity used is about the same as when the cost of oil was $1 per gallon. There is no on site pollution and the only maintenance is changing the filter a couple of times a year. The air conditioning in the summer is an added bonus.
